Pride & Prejudice: My Timeless Magic
I know, I know. Pride & Prejudice. It's an old-fashioned read, a book I've devoured countless times over the years. But there's just something magical about that story that always finds a place on my bedside table.
The story is timeless. The conversations are immersive, and the characters? Utterly relatable and engaging. What can I say, or even, where should I begin?
Elizabeth Bennet is one feisty, headstrong, straight-talking woman who refuses to settle for anything less than true love. You can't help but root for her! And Mr. Darcy... I confess, he was my first crush when I read him as a teenager in English class. I'm not sure if it was his initial ignorance, his proud manner, or the fact that his character grew to be so compassionate, but he was truly worthy of old-fashioned swooning.
In my humble opinion, the characters are exceptionally well-written, developed, and full of depth—not forgetting, on occasion, humorous. (Yes, Mr. Collins, we're looking at you!) Personally, I don't want to spoil the brilliance of this book if you haven't read it yet, but the magnificence of Jane Austen's writing brilliantly demonstrates the nuances between characters of privilege and those who do not, at different stages of wealth.
Jane Austen was a woman—an author who wrote themes and characters far beyond her time. Her characters were easily relatable, despite the historical setting of her stories. Beyond that, Jane Austen wrote stories (like Sense & Sensibility, another favourite of mine) that you could truly lose yourself in as a cup of hot chocolate sits by your side.
Until next week,
Stay magical,
