The Story of My Book Cover (And My Son’s Brilliant Idea!)

I’ve been asked how I came up with the design for my book cover, and the truth is simple: I didn't. My son did.

For weeks, I had been designing the cover, going back and forth with endless edits, re-designs, and fonts for the title.

As great as these designs were, they just didn’t fit what I was looking for. My panic was a full-blown reality. With launch day only days away, I was having nightmares of a blank page with just a title on it. I finally gave in, resigning myself to picking one of the designs and just being happy with it.

While I was looking, my son, with all the wisdom of a teenage boy, simply said, “Mom, why don't you just put the amulet from the story as the cover?” Honestly, I just looked at him. It was that simple, and I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it myself, especially considering the amulet is a major part of the story.

I gave him a kiss on the cheek (which he promptly told me to "get off"), said thank you, and instantly got designing the cover.

And as boring and uneventful as it may be, that is the true story of how the cover for The Orenda Prophecy series was created.

Thank you, son x
